With over 20 years of experience, here is a little about me.
As a teenager I was enthralled by my uncle’s ability to build or fix anything(usually with hand tools). I used to watch as he took on tasks that seems unthinkable for one man around the farm whenever he would visit our homestead. I would ask him how he could do that work and he would tell me that nothing is impossible if you have patience, a basic understanding of geometry and physics and a little time. Twenty five years ago I began to design and build some custom furniture for my own home as a hobby. I then took on challenges that were born from home ownership such as remodeling master closets, hardwood floors, bar tops and re-siding and adding bay windows to the house, just to name a few. As time went by when I would show guests the work and furniture I had done they would ask how I was able to do what I had done I would say it is amazing what a “poor guy and some power tools” can do.
After several successful years working in retail management I realized that fulfillment and success are not the same thing and turned my hobby into a small business geared toward helping folks find unique solutions to their home improvement vision at a price that would not eliminate their ability to live within the very vision they had. Being a man of modest means I only wanted to be able to pay the bills I had and the name “PoorGuyWoodcraft” came to mind to distance myself from those who were out there taking advantage of folks who had neither the time or knowledge to do the work themselves. Over time the work has ranged from decks, sheds, patios, outdoor kitchens, and tile work.
I love that my scope changes periodically and occasionally I fall back to working on the custom furniture and art pieces that make people go “wow”. Regardless of what job we take on, the goal is always to give the best work with a unique and custom flair for a fair price.
Let’s make something unique together!
